Certificate of No Impediment
(CNI)
What is a Certificate of No Impediment?
A Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) is a document that provides that there is no Impediment/Obstruction in allowing an individual to be married and shows that there has been no objection to a proposed marriage. The Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) is now a standard requested to get married overseas.
Although, the information of this document may vary from country to country, the CNI usually contains the name and surname of the addressee, age, condition to marry (single, divorced, etc.), nationality, place of residence, etc. This document should be either apostilled or legalized depending on where the marriage will take place. If the document is not in English or the primary official language of the country where the person wishes to marry, then the CNI must be accompanied by a certified translation.
